What are Microsoft
doing?
T wo
years ago Microsoft launched Windows 2000.
Last year its new licensing structure was introduced.
This year Microsoft stops supporting and being responsible
for Windows 95.
Support for 95 and an upgrade path to a later operating system
will no longer exist. During 2002 you will migrate to 2000/XP.
While assessing your strategy, consider the below:-
If you upgrade your Windows 95 licenses to XP with upgrade
protection now, you will save thousands of pounds on an asset
that you must have and one that can be capitalised over a
number of years.
What needs to be done?
- Log onto every PC and server in your office.
- Write down every application and service installed.
- Sort through CD’s and manuals that came with PC’s.
- Predict your software requirements for 12 months.
- Document and list everything.
- Send this list to three suppliers and await response.
